La jerarquía de Pablo Prigioni (19 pts, 8 reb y 8 asist) y Luis Scola (20pts) , ambos con un gran partido, los triples de Leonardo Gutiérrez (3 trip) y el corazón del “gringo” Pelussi fueron más que suficiente para amasar una victoria tan necesaria como importante de cara a la clasificación. Por el lado del invitado al Premundial (Cuba se bajó del mismo) solo W. Green (18 pts y 9 reb.) pudo repetir la buena actuación que tuvo este quinteto cuando golpeó a Venezuela. Argentina debía ganar por una diferencia mayor a 13 puntos para dejar afuera en una hipotética triple definición con Venezuela y Panamá al vencido de esta noche. Si los de Hernández vencen en el último encuentro de la rueda clasificatoria a República Dominicana, clasificarán directamente sin esperar ningún resultado e incluso arrastrarían 2 victorias y una sola derrota, de la otra manera solo se llevaría 1 y cargaría con 2. Argentina está viva, Argentina volvió a creer, porque cuando a los grandes se les toca el amor propio, sus fuerzas vuelven a tornarse conmovedoras. Parciales 28/13, 20/17, 12/19 y 20 a 6.

Sorry for writing in English as I’m from Malaysia. Hope you don’t mind me commenting here about the on going FIBA Americas. As expected with the absence of Team USA, this competition has turned out to be much more than exciting than ever. There is no telling what can happened even after day 4.
So far I believe only Brazil and Puerto Rico are the true championship contender while DR and Canada or Uruguay and to certain extent maybe Venezuela can be the dark horse. My team has always been Argentina as I’m really sad to see the current state of the team. Thank God they won against Panama but that will not guarantee anything as their next match against DR will tough as ever.
If they finished fourth in their group, then their quarter final match up against Costa Rica will be extremely tough for them to break the top four for the automatic berth. But I feel that FIBA will award them a wild card birth based on their strong world ranking.
